CSC Appreciation Week
Good evening West Salisbury Families, this is your principal Mr. Binns. I hope you are enjoying this wonderful Sunday. We have a few announcements for you this week. We want to congratulate Mrs. Tara Martens, Wicomico County’s teacher of the year for making the State Finals as she represents Wicomico County at the state level. We wish you all the best Mrs. Martens. Parents, please be aware that if you want to change your child from riding the bus or have them get on the bus you MUST send in a note, email, text message a written document requesting your change for the day. We are NOT permitted to change your child’s form of transportation the day of with a phone call, and if someone different is picking up your child they MUST, I repeat they MUST have identification. This is for the safety of the child. We will not permit last minute changes and or adults without ID to pick up your child. For car rider parents, in the morning please drive your child up to the orange and black cones and the staff will assist you with unloading your child from the car. Once we get used to the drop off and pick up it will go a lot smoother. Parents attendance is very important to our us. This year attendance is one of our school focuses and area of improvement. We are currently tracking all absences and lateness. Please understand if your child accumulates, more than 4 absences in a marking period you the parent will receive an Attendance Intervention Plan (AIP) which you have to comply to and if the absences and lateness continue and add up to over 10.5 days it could lead to truancy court. We do not want any of our families have to deal with this so we please ask that you send your child to school daily and be on time and if you are absent please make sure you bring in your appointment note or documentation for the absence. We want our tiger cubs in school. 1st grade parents, please be reminded of the West Salisbury ELA workshop that will take place on Tuesday, September 19. Please be looking out and listening out for another automated call with more information and see our Facebook, DOJO and Live Feeds for more information. Well, that is it for now, we are the Tiger Nation, this means more, let me hear you roar. ROAR!!! Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Live Feeds to stay updated on our announcements and activities.

There were roars of excitement throughout the hallways of West Salisbury Elementary School Monday as Tiger Nation celebrated the naming of its own Mrs. Tara Martens as a finalist for Maryland Teacher of the Year. West Salisbury Elementary's Teacher of the Year, and the 2023-2024 Wicomico Teacher of the Year, is now one of seven finalists for Maryland Teacher of the Year! To get the good news, Mrs. Martens was wheeled backwards down the hallway on a swivel chair, then was turned around by her administrative team to find Superintendent of Schools Dr. Micah Stauffer waiting with a tiara and finalist sash at the start of a red carpet. There was then a schoolwide announcement on the intercom, followed by a walking celebration through the school, with all staff and students in the hallways cheering her on. We are proud once again of this outstanding teacher, who is now one of seven finalists with the chance to be named Maryland Teacher of the Year on Oct. 13. Read the Maryland State Department of Education announcement: https://news.maryland.gov/.../finalists-named-for-2023.../ More photos coming soon, but here are some highlights of the surprise announcement.

Final Call for Kids Read Now
Good afternoon, West Salisbury families. Day one for our 1st and 2nd graders was awesome. We greeted our tiger cubs with pom-poms and clappers. The smiles from students and parents were priceless. I wanted to touch base with our parents about a few things. Parents, please make sure you check out dress code on the Wicomico County Public Schools website under dress code. We saw students with ripped up jeans and they are not permitted. Also, students that have crocs shoes must have them completely on in the four-wheel drive position or sport position which means that they have the strap on the back. This is mandatory for all students wearing crocs. Parents, if your child is a bus rider or a car rider, in order to change for the day, you must put your request in writing so that we have a copy of the request on record. Finally, please be patient with our dismissal, there will be a few hiccups but we are doing our best to get everyone out in a timely manner. Please do not drive two abreast at dismissal it is dangerous. Be reminded that Kindergarten and PreK do not attend tomorrow they will come either Thursday or Friday depending on the day stated on your back-to-school letter. Our parents left tiger paws for our tiger cubs today. Each Paw had a message. That is it for today. We look forward to an even better day tomorrow. Let me hear you roar. ROAR!!!

Good afternoon West Salisbury families and staff, this is your principal Mr. Binns. I hope you are enjoying your weekend and preparing for the Labor Day Holiday. Well, school officially starts on Tuesday, and we want to give you a few announcements to be aware of. There will be no school on Monday, September 4th because of the Labor Day Holiday. On Tuesday, September 5th school will begin for 1st and 2nd grades only. The doors to the school open up at 8:15 a.m. and classes begin at 8:45 a.m. Students are dismissed at 3:15 p.m. and students must be picked up, or have left school by 3:45 p.m. Kindergarten and PreK students do not attend school on Tuesday, but parents are able to have parent-teacher conferences with their child’s teacher on Tuesday or Wednesday if they have called the school to sign up. Kindergarten and PreK students will come to school either Thursday, September 7th or Friday September 8th depending on the date that was highlighted on your back-to-school letter. Again, students in Kindergarten and PreK will not attend school on Tuesday and Wednesday. Also please be aware that all students have access to a free breakfast and lunch every day when they come to school. Another change for the 2023-2024 school year is that West Salisbury is NO LONGER a “Consistent Attire Program” (CAP) school. This means that your child can wear clothes that are not uniformed but the clothes must be in accordance with the Wicomico County Public Schools dress code that can be found on the Wicomico County Public Schools website. https://www.wicomicoschools.org/ click on the “Parents/Students” link at the top and find Dress Code under the letter D. Some basic reminders are no flip-flops or slippers, no ripped jeans or ripped pants, no hats, visors, and no tops that promote violence, drugs, profanity, etc. Parents, please remember we will have our announcements on Facebook, Instagram, automated calls, emails, text messages, Thrillshare Live Feed, and DOJO. Finally, parents that are dropping off your children please remain in your cars and pull up to the cones in the street and allow the staff to let your child out and we will escort them to the building. Remember to drive slowly and follow the crosswalk attendant, because our students’ safety is a priority. Well, that is it for now we hope you have wonderful holiday, and we will see you either on Tuesday if you are 1st or 2nd grade, Thursday or Friday if you are Kindergarten or PreK and we will see EVERYONE next Monday 11th. See you later. Tigers let me hear you roar. ROAR!!!
